Bradford Branch of Comhaltas is a mini-Gaeltacht. Every Wednesday night you will hear people speaking Irish together. 'A country without a language is a country without a soul' is a true saying and Ireland has struggled to retain and regain the native tongue, once forbidden but now very much alive and active, not least among those whose only link with the country goes back generations and who live in Britain.

We began the lessons ten years ago and lots of different people have been with us during that time. Some moved away, others couldn't continue because of domestic committments, yet more we lost to the grim reaper. But there were always new people arriving who were keen to renew their acquaintance with Irish, or wanted to upgrade their knowledge or were just curious.

All the learners are very friendly and a great welcome awaits the new learner. If you would like to sample a lesson from the beginners class, the teachers would be happy to accommodate you.
