The teachers in
Bradford Comhaltas are dedicated devotees of Irish culture. Ian travels
from Keighley to teach fiddle, banjo and mandolin. Berni teaches
piano accordion and harp and David the bodhran. We are just
beginning the lessons and only have a few learners, but we expect the
numbers to pick up when word gets around.
The Irish Language classes have been running since 1989 and are taught
currently by Liam Padden. It
is a difficult language to learn, but you can have great fun making the
attempt. Even so, it is a beautiful tongue and rewards those who get to
use it, if only in simple and easy conversation. We have a half-dozen or
so regular students of the tongue come to the class every other Wednesday.
Sinéad teaches set-dancing and the whistle, while step-dancing is taught
by Rebecca. Numbers of dancers arrive every week to indulge in
cholesterol-freeing activity of a very enjoyable sort.
